You choose your commander at the start of the game (you have five different nobles to chose from, each with different characteristics and different advantages and flaws) and this will affect your entire campaign. It is similar to Kingdom under Fire: Crusaders in many aspects. The game, however, has some crucial differences. A game I would recommend is a recently released title by Neocore games which is so much in the spirit of the Total War series that you'd think they used the same game engine.
